A United Auto Workers On Strike sign is seen outside the Ford Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan U.S. October 25, 2023. The following are issues highlighted by UAW leaders:* Ford will invest $8.1 billion in renovating factories and adding new models. * Raises of 33% or more for many workers over the life of the contract, including cost-of-living adjustments that push up wages in line with inflation. At the top end, workers will see an extra $70,000 in pay over the contract. * Lowest-paid temporary workers could see wages rise 150%* Pathway for battery and electric vehicle plants to come under the union agreement at commensurate pay rates.

Dana said the UAW strikes affected some of its largest light truck programs, including Ford Super Duty, Ranger and Bronco as well as Stellantis' Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator. "The longer the UAW strike continues, the greater financial stress there will be across the Tier 2 through Tier 4 supply base," Dana's chief executive James Kamsickas said in a post-earnings call with analysts. Dana expects its full-year sales to be $10.7 billion if UAW strikes through Oct. 31, or $10.2 billion with strikes through Dec. 31. GM and Ford have pulled their full-year forecasts this week to account for impacts from the UAW strikes.

Details of the proposed agreement, which needs to be ratified by UAW workers, were not immediately available. REUTERS/Rebecca Cook/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON/DETROIT, Oct 23 - The United Auto Workers (UAW) union went on strike at Chrysler-parent Stellantis's largest assembly plant on Monday, hitting the automaker's profitable RAM 1500 pickup truck production in a major expansion of the more than month-old strike. The union has demanded a 40% wage hike, including a 20% immediate increase, improvements in benefits, as well as covering EV battery plant workers under union agreements. He said the Detroit Three had converged on a 23% wage hike offer and made progress on other issues but told UAW members "there is more to be won". Fain also told UAW members the talks were nearing an end.

"Our strike is working, but we’re not there yet," UAW President Shawn Fain said in a livestreamed update on negotiations with the three automakers. Threatening to strike against GM's Arlington, Texas, plant that makes cash-cow SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade spurred GM to agree that EV battery factories would become union plants with UAW contracts, Fain said. GM is building three Ultium joint-venture battery plants with South Korea's LG Energy Solution (373220.KS). GM is building a fourth U.S. battery plant with Samsung SDI (006400.KS) in Indiana. Fain also said on Friday that the UAW could still strike against highly profitable pickup truck plants if progress stalls.

REUTERS/Rebecca Cook/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Americans broadly back striking workers in the auto industry and Hollywood, according to a two-day Reuters/Ipsos poll completed on Wednesday that found significant support among both Democrats and Republicans. Some 72% of self-identified Democrats said they backed the auto workers strike and 79% said they supported the Hollywood strike. The poll found that 48% of Republicans backed the auto workers strike, while 47% opposed it. Other candidates like Nikki Haley and Tim Scott have said the auto workers are asking for too much. Two-thirds said pay for CEOs and workers should go up equally -- a central talking point of the UAW strike.

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Republican Mike Rogers, who served in Congress for 14 years and chaired the House Intelligence Committee, is running for an open U.S. Senate seat in Michigan that Democrats have held for over two decades. The announcement, which was provided to The Associated Press in a campaign video on Wednesday, instantly shakes up a Senate race that had been relatively quiet and dominated by Democratic candidates. It's seen as a recruiting victory for Michigan Republicans, who have struggled to win statewide races with a state party in turmoil. The GOP has not won a Michigan U.S. Senate race since 1994. Defending the Michigan seat may prove crucial for Democrats, who face tough headwinds as they defend seats in Republican-leaning states from West Virginia to Montana and Ohio.

U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai addresses the media during the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework meeting in Detroit, Michigan U.S. May 27, 2023. Tai's intervention comes amid worries the licensing regime could impact shipments from the likes of Apple (AAPL.O) and Dell (DELL.N) and force firms to boost local manufacturing. Tai was in India to join the G20 trade ministers' meeting last week in the western state of Rajasthan. India's new licensing regime, which is due to come into effect on November 1, aims to "ensure trusted hardware and systems" enter the nation. It also seeks to reduce dependence on imports, boost local manufacturing, and in part address the country's trade imbalance with China, according to an Indian government official.

REUTERS/Rebecca CookFeb 27 (Reuters) - Ohio residents suing Norfolk Southern Corp (NSC.N) over a train derailment that spilled toxic chemicals urged a U.S. judge on Monday to block the company from destroying the wreckage without first giving them ample opportunity to inspect the crash site. The derailment of the Norfolk Southern operated train in East Palestine on Feb. 3 forced thousands of residents to evacuate while railroad crews drained and burned off toxic chemicals. They asked the judge to give their experts more time before Norfolk Southern removes and destroys the wreckage, which was slated to start on Wednesday. She asked whether Norfolk Southern could remove low-priority cars to an offsite storage location for later inspection, or if other options were available. The EPA on Saturday announced it was temporarily pausing Norfolk Southern's shipment of material from the crash site, but promised those efforts would resume soon.
